Big Hand <bighandmusic>

The new way to have a truly good time has arrived! Big Hand have already shared stages with the likes of Reel Big Fish, The Beat, The Sunshine Underground, Mum-ra, Neville Staples, The Selecter, Bad Manners, Frankie Miller, The Bhundu Boys, The Slackers, St. Petersberg Brass Quartet, Babyhead and Joe Walsh (The Eagles), as well as playing legendary venues and festivals throughout the UK and Europe. Big Hand recently rocked out an all star Halloween shindig hosted by goth director Tim Burton and his crew. The band also opened the Edinburgh Fringe festival this year to a heaving throng of media and performers. Along the way they have captivated a crazily diverse set of audiences, ranging from 20 to 10,000, including: high society fashion parties, hippy peace camps, university students, corporate dos, old-school skanksters, as well as various indie, funk, metal, punk, rock, dub and reggae club nights. Big Hand play every gig they feasibly can (over 120 in 2006) and are always asked back

  • Winter Warmer

Oh my, it really is freezing at the moment. I'm now back in London which to be fair lacks the biting go straight through you wind of Edinburgh. Inverness was just silly especially as we ended up in some country place just outside of Inverness having been stranded out of our Hotel… (big thanks to Kit and Sally for sorting that ;)
Anyways with the onset of Christmas decorations and all the high streets being lit up I’m actually enjoying this time of year. I’m aware that it will all go to shit in January but there we go. I’m hoping my mood reflects yer own as there really aren’t enough public holidays based around being kind and hospitable to yer fellow person. Try and keep that in mind and not focus on the material stuff too much. As the great Don Henley one said ‘You don’t see many hearses with luggage racks.’
Go see friends, hang out get drunk and enjoy one anothers company. If yer in the mood for some music and live down saffffff we still have a few gigs on. Sorry that the Fly’s sold out, we’ll book a bigger venue next time.

Much love folks (ho ho ho)

One thing is true about a Thursday and that is that its not wednesday, whats that got to do with anything you ask? Well, nothing really, just twaddle for the sake of twaddle. On a non-twadalific note though today is the day the Hand shall travel into the snow swept region of inverness for an evening of purest feel good ska, i really cant wait! ive been looking forward to gigging again for what feels like a lifetime so if you are coming along expect your loveable trumpet man to be going a little madder than usual as i got a lot of shit to vent on stage, beers, dancing, bad jokes are all sure to be present here and also over the rest of the tour so dont sit in hugging your heaters, come out and get some ska in ye!!

    much love me ol' china's.

  • Potato parties, Vitamin C and trivial pursuit

Hey cyber hand fans hope yer all feeling good this cold monday evening, just thought i would report on random events going on in my life just now, saturday saw me attending my friend natalies birthday party round at her gaff where the theme of the night was rather obscurely "potato night" and as a humble, fairly standard potato eater i was pretty damn impressed with the variety of potato based munch that was on the menu mainly the 'sweet potato' mash that mim made who, coincidently, used to sing for a fantastic group called polymyth which i highly recomend you do a wee search for and have a listen to the tracks on their myspace. Anyways, needless to say as always the night got pretty damn messy involving games like centurion and the spoon game but games aside for the moment i was well impressed to see my mate 'Scum' make an appearance. I'd not seen this dude in like 4 years as he went off to live in Birmingham but the guy (legendery as always) arrived in a proper badgered state and ended up K.O'd on the couch for the WHOLE night after only being there for like 30 mins, crazy fool :)

Sunday saw me feeling well shit and almost in a totaly crippled state but through some miracle brought on by the consumption of ridiculous amounts of vitamin C i managed to find some sense of functionality and went up to my old mans with the boy and wife for an evening of surf and turf curry and trivial pursuit genius edition although through some ironic twist it was spelt 'the genus edition', See, the little silly things in life do make me laugh. The game lasted about 3 hours before we finaly decided to call it a day and beleive it or not but i managed to acquire 4 bits of fantasticly colourfull pie, it seemed though that sport and history was where i was failing miserably. Any hoo just gonna kick back tonight and enjoy the next few nights of chill time before the next string of gigs kicks in. I suggest you all get yerself someone tasty to curl up to during these wintery days and save that energy for the next time the opportunity to skank comes yer ways ;)

    Phil.

Wow it’s taken us just over a year to get back to lovely Birmingham. Last time we played here it was at the NEC so this will be alot more intimate to put it mildly. Saying that we love intimate so it should be a great gig and prolly our last in 2008.

Thanks a bunch (of Ma-hoo-ssive flowers, for your big hand) for asking about my location. Hope to see you in the not too distant future!
